Ritney Castine, Youth and Community Programs Coordinator for the Louisiana Tobacco Control Program was selected in January to serve on the American Legacy Foundation’s Youth Activism Board.
The Foundation's Youth Activism Programs promote and invest in the leadership of youth who are committed to tobacco control and prevention, as well as to gather insight and perspective on youth culture.
Serving as internal advisors to the Foundation, this is a group of college-age leaders representing diverse communities and youth activism organizations.
Council members also give presentations and share information about the tobacco issue in their schools and communities.
The Council embodies and promotes Legacy’s mission to build a world where young people reject tobacco and anyone can quit. The one-year terms end in June 2011, and applications for the following year are announced in the fall.
•Council members work passionately as tobacco control and prevention advocates in their communities.
•They draw on imaginative, practical and effective strategies to reach young people with their message.
•They are college-age youth who give presentations to state and local tobacco control programs, conferences and summits, national and local youth organizations and schools.
•Members are trained to present relevant, compelling facts about the tobacco issue.
